Meet Your District 301 (Leigh) Supervisor
Mr. Jerry R. Townsend grew up in Prince Edward County and attended Prince Edward County Public Schools. He earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Administration of Justice at Southside Community College. Mr. Townsend served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has held various positions in his career, including Superintendent for the Department of Corrections and currently, he serves as the Superintendent for Piedmont Regional Jail. During his time on the Board of Supervisors, Mr. Townsend became a Certified County Supervisor by Virginia Association of Counties. He chose to run for his elected position because he wanted to help make his community and County a better place to live. Mr. Townsend has stated that he feels honored that the constituents of his district had enough confidence in him to be their voice. In his spare time, Mr. Townsend loves singing in the New Bethel Men’s Community Chorus, playing softball, and spending time with his siblings and family members. He lives in the Leigh District with his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Chelsie.
