2022 Property Tax Bills, Tax Relief and Payment Extension
In response to anticipated higher personal property tax bills Prince Edward County residents will be receiving this year, the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors recently approved two relief measures for 2022 property tax bills - a higher rebate on personal property tax relief and an extension on the deadline for when tax payments to the county will be penalty- and interest-free. Please read the FAQ below and stay tuned for more updates on the process.
Q1. When will county residents receive their tax bills?
On November 22, 2022, the County was notified that tax bills were mailed through the United States Postal Service.
Q2. How much personal property tax relief will taxpayers receive?
On Thursday, November 10, 2022, the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors voted to set the Personal Property Tax Relief percentage at 37.5 percent. This provides county taxpayers an additional 13.5% of personal property tax relief on the first $20,000 of assessed value on qualifying use vehicles.
Q3. Who is eligible for the additional personal property tax relief?
Residents who receive a 2022 personal property tax bill for qualifying personal use vehicles are eligible for the 37.5 percent personal property tax relief, which will be represented in your tax bill.
Q4. When are personal property and real estate tax bills due?
County taxes are due December 5, 2022; however, the Board of Supervisors has extended the date for penalty-free payment from December 5, 2022 to January 5, 2023.
The County did not extend the legal deadline, as it wants mortgage companies and corporations to pay their taxes on time.
Citizens who pay between December 6, 2022 and January 5, 2023 will not be assessed a late payment penalty or interest.
